The first evidence you’re going to have that this homemade jewelry cleaner worked will be all the stuff floating around in your vinegar/tea tree oil liquid. The last time I put my jewelry in this mixture I didn’t think it was too dirty, and it didn’t exactly need cleaning. Within just a few minutes, though, there was so much stuff floating around in the water that I was appalled.

Witch hazel is slightly acidic, and vinegar much more so, but either will work for soaking your jewelry. This cleaning method is intended for jewelry with sturdy stone settings (I wouldn’t use it for opals, pearls, or tanzanite, for example), and that is especially important to keep in mind if you’re using vinegar. Witch hazel is certainly the milder of the two, so use whichever ingredient you feel comfortable with.
Instead of buying a cheap plastic ring holder or spending a fortune on a not-so-cheap one, why not just create your own whimsical plaster hand to keep rings and bracelets organized? This is such a fun project and would make the perfect gift (the holidays are just around the corner, you know). You will need plaster of course, plus a mold and paint if you want to paint it. The great thing is that you can use rubber gloves as a mold and they are much cheaper than a real mold. This is the perfect thing for the dresser and will really help you to keep your rings and bracelets organized.

Wood floor samples are around a quarter each at your local home improvement store. You can use a few of these to create a beautiful jewelry organizer that will hang on the wall. You need a collection of samples (or you could just use a board if that’s what you have on hand), wood glue, a few screws and something to hang it – Velcro picture strips work well. The screws (and you can buy decorative ones if you want) are what holds all those necklaces and keeps them from getting tangled. Just hang it in the bedroom or bathroom and you’ll always have your necklaces perfectly organized.
This is a magic recipe! I am on a lot of medication and it doesn’t t take long before my silver jewellery becomes tarnished. So annoying! I tried your recipe after discarding a lot of others that did a part-cleaning job so I must admit I was a bit skeptical. To my delight everything I cleaned came out shining and sparkly. I’ve used it on gold, diamonds, emeralds, amethysts but would not use it on pearls.

be careful with the white gold, most of it is plated with rhodium (a metal in the platinum family); white gold itself is dull, and this is done to make it shiny. I had a jeweller in the family, and got my original wedding band from him, many years ago. When he asked if I wanted it plated, I said no. I’m sure my face was a treat when I first saw it; it was immediately plated! This method of cleaning might remove the plating eventually. I’d check with a jeweller before doing it too often.
